Most of you probably don’t know this, but I used to be allergic to shellfish. Now exactly when these allergies went away is beyond me, but going paleo meant eating a lot of meat, poultry and fish! I could only sit idle for so long watching my friends suck down lobster and king crab before I had enough! So I got re-tested and with the exception of scallops….I am cured!
Okay Rob……so where are you going with this? SHRIMP!!! Now that I can have SHRIMP, I began noticing things on menus such as “Jumbo Shrimp”, “Cocktail Shrimp”, “Tiger Prawns”, etc. and it quickly dawned on me that if there was a difference in the quality of our beef and poultry (you know the grass-fed, hormone free stuff) than I bet the same would apply to shrimp. So I did some research to see which were “better” options and came across a great little guide that Mark Sisson put together which helps to explain not only the differences between the species of shrimp, but the significance behind where they come from, farmed vs. fresh, domestic vs. imported, and other cool stuff!
